The Human Element

Just got through catching Baths over at Mohawks. Lovely set. Reminded me of an element that is often overlooked and missing within a lot of electronic music. This also came to mind considering, I just also got back from the Nocturnal Festival where I was hit with a plethora of electronic music. That missing element is the human element. There is no substitute. Sometimes, even though it may not be extremely obvious, the subtleness of the voice can add something magical everyone can attach to...even that catchy vocal sample pulled from an old record. Not everyone may know what goes into creating a beat or playing an instrument, but it's more than likely we've all caught ourselves singing our favorite melody. As much as I love instrumental music, there is no denying the human voice reaches out and grabs our attention. Even over an otherwise bland track. In contrast, this is why I'm also attracted to the 'not so traditional' singer ie, Björk, Kurt Cobain. It's because most of us are born with the gift to sing (...i didn't say well), but not everyone knows how to find their own humanistic voice.

  1. PS: This is probably one of the most amazing videos I've seen in a while and apparently after talking with Baths, it was directed by one of his very good friends and they will be partnering to do more work together :)
