Today, I spent part of the afternoon playing old records with the roommate. Rummaged through crates of drum n' bass, ragga, and breakcore. Timelines to my shifted interested in breakbeat electronic music.
IDM was my first attraction...Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre, etc. Before then, I thought of "dance music" as repetitive and boring. Ruff broken drums, a little melody here and there - that was key! Stemmed from my affection and nostalgia for eastcoast gritty boom-bap I was born into I guess.
So, I stumbled upon an old file I lost from a hard drive crash which I never completed.
This is where I was...
Khary Kadaver - Fireballs (lost...never completed)
Tonight, you can find my roommate, Chris Kutthroat, playing alongside Crisp Arson, Sol.ID and Focus of the drum n' bass duo, Basic Operations. All happening over at Barcelona.
basement + drum n' bass = perfection!
